The City owns three lakes.  West Lake is the smallest of the City’s lakes and is located on the west end of Monroe City.   This lake is stocked regularly and is a good fishing lake.

South Lake is 2 miles south of Monroe City.  It offers fishing, picnic tables and a pavilion.  There is a portable toilet at this lake during the summer.  There is a driveway that goes completely around this lake.

 

Route J. Reservoir is a recreational 100 acre lake on 400 acres of land located on Highway J southeast of Monroe City.  This lake has a boat dock and a handicap accessible floating fishing dock with concrete trail.  This lake offers fishing in a wooded setting.  Boats with up to 10 HP motors are allowed on this lake.  Primitive camping is allowed at this lake with a permit issued by City Hall.   In order to obtain a permit go to City Hall located at 109 Second Street in Monroe City.  The cost is $5.00 per night.  Note:  There are duck blinds on Route J. Lake.  The duck blinds are not the property of the City or the responsibility of the City.  When these duck blinds are gone, they cannot be replaced.  Click here to see Route J Reservoir use regulations
