D.A.R.E. is the acronym for Drug Abuse Resistance Education. The Monroe City Police Department has an officer who is certified to teach D.A.R.E. core program for the fifth grade. The program lasts 17 weeks and is taught throughout the school year. Students are taught the effects of using drugs including alcohol, tobacco and other illegal drugs. This program instills in its students the confidence to stand up to peer pressure and resist the use of drugs.
